LONDON (MNI) – UK third-quarter new construction orders, a forward
looking measure of activity in the sector, fell a seasonally-adjusted
4.0% quarter on quarter to stg11.7 billion (on a constant basis), the
lowest since Q1 2009, figures by National Statistics showed on Friday.

The total volume of new construction orders also declined on a
year-on-year basis, down 14% from the same period in 2009.
Infrastructure orders were down by 27% from the second quarter and fell
56% from a year ago, the lowest volume of orders since the fourth
quarter of 2006.

Excluding infrastructure, public non-housing orders decreased 24%
quarter on quarter and fell 37% from a year ago, the weakest volume
since the fourth quarter of 2007.

Only private housing and private commercial orders showed growth in
the third quarter compared with the second quarter.
