The worrisome rise in UK cases continues
This is the first day with more than 40,000 confirmed cases.
An optimist would say this reflects the Christmas lag; a pessimist would say it reflects the more-virulent strain. It's going to take a few days to sort through it.
The UK also added 357 people to the death toll.
