UK finance minister Philip Hammond comments

  • Leaving the EU will have economic cost
  • May's deal helps to minimise that cost
  • Leaving on WTO terms would be a very, very bad outcome
  • Says that idea of renegotiating Brexit deal is a delusion
  • Alternatives are no-deal or no Brexit at all
  • Says a no-deal Brexit would leave Britain 'fractured', divided

Not much of a surprise here as Hammond's comments are what you'd expect since he's still very much supporting May ahead of the vote next Tuesday. The Brexit debate will continue to rage on but the odds are still stacked against Theresa May of winning next week's vote at this point.

GBP/USD holds steady on the day now at 1.2747 near the highs. Meanwhile, EUR/GBP is a little lower at 0.8896 stuck in a tight range for the day.
