WASHINGTON (MNI) – The Senate voted Tuesday to approve a $128
billion fiscal year 2012 spending bill.

The Senate approved the bill on a 69 to 30 vote.

The bill combines three of the regular FY’12 spending bills:
Agriculture, Commerce-Justice-Science, and Transportation-HUD.

During the Senate’s consideration of various amendments Tuesday,
Republican Senator Mike Crapo withdrew his amendment to delay
implementation of provisions in the new Dodd-Frank law that pertain to
derivatives transactions.

The Senate is expected to take up a second three spending bill
package soon. That package will combine the Energy-Water, Financial
Services, and State-Foreign Operations spending bills.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday that the three-bill
minibus approach was an “experiment” that “worked out extremely well.”

The 2012 fiscal year began on Oct. 1. The federal government is
running on a stop-gap spending bill that extends until Nov. 18.

No final version of a regular FY’12 appropriations bill has yet
been passed.
