Yuko Obuchi is Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. Japanese weekend media are reporting she plans to resign in the wake of the reports of the misuse of funds, which could violate electoral and political funding laws.

The reports say Obuchi told aides to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday that she is ready to step down amid the accusations. They go on to say Abe will decide whether to accept Yuko Obuchi’s resignation when he returns from Italy on Saturday.

If you have ever been to Japan you will know how pushy those voice-recorder and camera sales people can be

I should clarify … I often refer to Akira Amari as Japan’s “Economy Minister” …. he is not who this report is referring to. Amari’s actual cabinet position is Minister of State for Economic Revitalization.

I am not sure this will will have too much of an impact on then yen come the open on Monday. Abe still hasn’t accepted the resignation yet, for one thing. Maybe a few jitters.
