RBA Governor Stevens gives a speech at at 1.05pm Sydney time (that's 0305GMT), at the Anika Foundation.
Stevens speaks each year here and uses the speech to give his views on the economy and policy. There will be a Q&A following.
What to watch for?
- Comments on the impact of monetary policy on domestic growth. Stevens has said in several recent speeches that the impact of additional easing may be lessening
- Comments on the AUD: The July board Minutes noted that the weaker Australian dollar has been, so far offering "less assistance than would normally be expected"
Putting these 2 together, the RBA seems concerned that any additional easing, & its impact on the AUD, may have a less clear positive growth impact.
- Also watch for any comments on the housing market ... if this is less of a concern it makes additional rate cuts (should the RBA judege these necessary) more likely
