Sauli Niinisto easily won re-election
Finland's President is largely a ceremonial role but he has some responsibilities for foreign policy and appointments. One of them is replacing Erkki Liikanen at the Bank of Finland and ECB when his term expires in July.
The 67-year-old Liikanen has led the Bank of Finland since 2004 and is one of the few remaining holdouts from the pre-crisis period. He's been in Finnish politics for 45 years.
Former finance minister Olli Rehn is a favourite for the post.
I just came across this chart on Twitter, it shows how badly Sweden has outperformed Finland since the crisis. You would think that would lead to some political instability and frustration with the euro (Sweden doesn't use the euro) but that doesn't seem to be the case.
