Theresa May faces her Julius Caesar moment
The Ides of March are passed but the knife may just be going into Theresa May's back now.
The UK Times reports that a "full-blown cabinet coup" got underway on Saturday as senior ministers moved to push out May and replace her with deputy David Lidington.
"The Sunday Times spokes to 11 cabinet minister who confirmed that they wanted the prime minister to make way for someone else," the report says.
In a frantic series of private telephone calls, senior ministers agreed the prime minister must announce she is standing down, warning that she has become a toxic and "erratic" figure whose judgment has "gone haywire".
The plotters aim to confront May on Sunday and demand she quit.
That may not be easy with May's leadership secured until December because she survived a leadership challenge in Dec 2018 and party rules say she can't be challenged for a year. However, she may not be able to withstand a revolt at such a dicey moment.
