With Italian investors having withdrawn a takeover bid given union opposition, the Italian media today reported that Alitalia is to call for bids from investors before September 30. A public announcement will be posted on Alitalia’s website tomorrow and on Tuesday in Italian and foreign newspapers. Sounds like pretty desperate stuff.
I can’t understand why six out of the airline’s nine unions would reject a deal in the current Global environment. O.K. you loose 3,250 jobs, but surely that’s better than losing them all. All i can say is “Good Luck Alitalia, you’ll need it.” Where’s that fork when you need it?
