Asian Stockmarkets are all higher today following the lead from Wall St. The Nikkei is up 1.4%, Kospi up 0.34%, China up 0.8% and ASX200 up 0.9%.
In Japan exporter stocks rose as USDJPY traded above 95.00, the level most Japanese firms used as the basis for their earnings forecast. Toyota +2.5%, Honda +1.5%, Canon +1.6%. Chip-related stocks also rose after a strong run on the Philidelphia Index overnight, Advantest +3.7%.
In Australia the market was mixed, with banking stocks starting the day in negative territory after ANZ siad it was raising $2.85 bio through share placement to buy certain AsianRBS assets. All banks recovered later in the day. BHP lead the miners higher on the back ofstrong gains in copper overnight, +1.7%. However RIO was down on the back of news that it settled for lower Iron ore prices in a deal with Nippon Steel.
