CANADA DATA: Retail sales +0.7% in July vs -0.3% in June with 8 of
11 subsectors recording gains, representing 72% of total retail
activity. Sales at new car dealers (+1.7%) and other motor vehicle
dealers (+2.8%) contributed the most to the gain. Other sectors to post
increases were general merch stores (+1.5%), bldg material and garden
equipment (+1.9%), gasoline stations (+0.7%), furniture and home
furnishing stores (+2.1%) and clothing and clothing accessories stores
(+0.2%). Receipts at food and beverage stores and electronics and
appliance stores retreated 0.9% and 1.7% respectively.
CANADA DATA: July natural gas sales totalled 4,753 million cubic
metres, +7.5% from a year ago and -1.3% from June. Compared to July last
year, volume of sales to the industrial sector +11% while volume of
sales to commercial sector -13.9%. In the same period, volume of sales
to the residential sector retreated 5.2%.
