Talks resume between Canada and US tomorrow in Washington DC.

The NAFTA talks between the US and Canada will resume tomorrow in Washington DC. In the meantime, Canada's Chrystia Freeland is making her daily comments.

  • Reiterates no NAFTA is better than a bad deal for Canada
  • Canada being extremely cooperative in NAFTA talks

Meanwhile, US Rep Scalise (R-Louisiana) is saying:

  • Canada has a limited time to join the new trade deal with the US.

Both Lighthizer and Freeland made a deal to not talk about details of the negotiations. So it is hard to gauge what things like "constructive talks" and "making progress" mean. Then you get the "glass is half empty"comments like "no deal is better than a bad deal."

At many points it seemed a deal was imminent. Since the last deadline passed and it ended with the "leak to Bloomberg" about how the President was not going to budge with negotiations, why would his feelings be any different now? And if so, would Canada give in? It sounds like they won't.
