The Challenger job cuts vs a year ago rose by 6.4%. Last year in March the job cuts announced totaled 34,399. This year the total rose to 36,594. In February, the announced job cuts were 50,579 (vs 41,835 last year)and in January, the announced cuts were 53,041 (vs 45, 107 in January 2014).
Overall in the 1st quarter, the announced job cuts totaled 140,214 vs 121,341 in Q1 of 2014
