Former UK Brexit secretary David Davis speaks to Bloomberg

  • But expects parliament to vote down May's Brexit deal
  • This deal is worse than EU membership in some ways
  • Sounds like about 40 leadership letters have gone in
  • Says that he hasn't submitted his leadership letter

It's been a quiet start to the morning in terms of fresh Brexit developments. All the focus right now is whether or not there will be 48 leadership letters accounted for to trigger a leadership challenge against Theresa May.

The Sun reported that there were already 42 letters earlier this morning here. And Davis' comments above adds some credence to that report at least.

However, the mood this morning has more likeness to the calm before the storm rather than a permanent dial down in Brexit volatility. The pound still holds steady on the day with cable now at 1.2853 backing off the highs of 1.2884 earlier. EUR/GBP has also moved back up to 0.8883 from lows of 0.8867 earlier.
