Without referring directly to Athens’s request for a two-year reprieve, Nowotny noted that Greece has ‘a long-term problem that is not solvable in two years and without outside help’.

Greek Fin Min Stournaras announced last week that the troika had given Athens the 2 year extension, but this was quickly denied by the EU and IMF, saying no final decision had been made yet. The extension is likely to be the topic of discussion at Wednesday’s meeting of Eurozone ministers.
