What's coming up on the calendar front today

Howdy, everyone! Hope you're all having a nice day. It's been a rather quiet session so far in Asia - and the lack of data points haven't been helping with that regard. But fret not, things will be picking up as we enter the European trading day.

Here is what's coming up:

0800 GMT - Spain Dec unemployment change

0830 GMT - Switzerland Dec manufacturing PMI

0855-0900 GMT - Germany Dec unemployment change/unemployment rate

Some minor data points from Spain and Germany with regards to unemployment, nothing too major. Same goes for Swiss manufacturing PMI.

0900 GMT - SNB sight deposits w.e. 29 December

Your weekly check of the deposits kept at the SNB by Swiss banks. This data point used to matter a bit more post-EUR/CHF floor removal, when people were looking for signs of intervention by the SNB.

0900 GMT - Brandenburg Dec CPI m/m & y/y

The Brandenburg CPI is more or less irrelevant by now (data was delayed on the day of the release last week - but overall Germany numbers have already been released here).

0930 GMT - UK Dec Markit construction PMI

Prior data was solid - rose the fastest in five months. But it's not the biggest sector in the UK, still nonetheless may have a minor impact based on sentiment alone - though I expect the reaction to be similar to yesterday's manufacturing PMI, i.e. muted reaction.

1200 GMT - US MBA mortgage applications w.e. 29 December

Weekly US housing data, measures the change in number of applications for mortgages backed by the MBA during the week. Not the biggest of data points, but a general indicator of the housing sector sentiment.

That's about it for today. No major data points, but some data points to glean on I suppose.

Hope you all have a great day ahead, and good luck with your trading!
