The EU’s Almunia says the G7 needs to put forward a comprehensive package of measures to address unfreezing the money markets, providing liquidity to markets and replenishing bank capital. That’s an ambitious agenda and we hope they can pull it off. Having seen efforts to coordinate on a pan-European basis sputter earlier this week, hopes for global cooperation may be a bit much to ask, but we’ll see. A communique is due at 6 pm Washington time, so Almunia may know what he’s talking about as a deal may already be done.
