BRUSSELS (MNI) – The Eurozone leaders will be asking the European
Commission and the Task Force for Greece to tighten inspections and
supervise Greek government spending on a permanent basis, an EU source
told Market News International.
The official said that the Eurozone summit conclusions expected to
be released later tonight will include a paragraph calling for
continuous inspection of the Greek programme.
“The enhanced supervision will be part of the new lending agreement
terms,” the official said.
On Sunday, MNI reported that the EU leaders, in response to a
demand from Germany, had decided to appoint EU spending controllers in
all Greek government ministries in order to monitor the execution of the
budget.
The reports of the new Task Force are expected to be submitted to
the Commission, the ECB, the IMF and the European Council on a monthly
basis. Up to now, the assessment was on a three month basis.
The 17 Eurozone leaders are meeting at this hour in Brussels, after
a summit of all 27 EU leaders ended earlier in the evening.
