At least Martin Shkreli can afford a lawyer to eat his humble pie
Martin Shkreli is one of the great villains of the last five years. He jacked up pharma prices and defiantly flaunted his million then it all came crashing down after he was accused of ripping off his former pharma company Retrophin.
Today his lawyer is in court pleading poverty. Shkreli is out on $5 million bail but his lawyer says he need it to be lowered to pay his legal fees "because he doesn't have any cash" ahead of his trial, which will start next week.
One of his most lavish purchases was $2 million for an unreleased Wu-Tang Clan album. His lawyer said it is now "probably worthless."
What's strange is that in 2015 he claimed to have $70 million.
Looks like another case of a someone who lied on the internet.
An even more incredible detail of the story is his legal bill so far, which is mostly being paid by Retrophin. It's already near $5 million.
By the way, the judge denied the request.
