PARIS (MNI) – France’s presidential office, the Elysee Palace, has
announced that France and Germany have reached an agreement on financial
assistance for debt-plagued Greece, the daily Le Monde reported moments
ago, citing Agence France Presse.
The paper said the deal — widely believed to include a combination
of aid from the International Monetary Fund and from Eurozone member
states — has been submitted to EU President Herman Van Rompuy in
Brussels.
The report comes as the leaders of the European Union’s 27 member
nations gather in Brussels today for a two-day summit under the cloud of
growing tensions over Greece and amid a swirl of conflicting rumors over
whether they will agree or not on a contingency plan for the troubled
Mediterranean Eurozone member.
