PARIS (MNI) – French Labor Minister Eric Woerth on Tuesday welcomed
the approval of the government’s pension reform by the Constitutional
Court following appeals by the opposition Socialist Party.

“This decision validates the reform of the pension system,” Woerth
told the National Assembly, noting that the Court judged the hike in the
retirement age to be in accord with the functioning of the pay-as-you-go
pension system.

“The president of the Republic can now promulgate this law, and
with this law … we will safeguard the pensions of the French,” he
said.
