At least, $758.7 million before taxes

The largest US lottery winner in history stepped forward to claim her prize after yesterday's Powerball draw. It was the second-biggest jackpot in US history but was won on a single ticket rather than the bigger jackpot, which was split three ways.

The winner is fifty-three-year-old Mavis L. Wanczy, according to the Associated Press. She was on her way home from work at a hospital in Chicopee, Massachusetts when she checked her ticket to find out she was suddenly one of the richest people in the state.

From AP:

"Wanczyk says the first thing she wants to do is sit back and relax. She says she has called work to let them know she won't be back.

Wanczyk has two adult children, a daughter and a son.

Lottery officials say she chose to take a lump sum payment of $480 million, or $336 million after taxes."

Not bad.

If she were to invest the $336m into 10-year Treasuries, that would be $7.36m per year. Heck, if she bought T-bills and rolled em that would be $3.22m per year.
