Germany's economy ministry out with the latest set of economic forecasts

  • Now sees 2018 growth at 2.3% from 2.4% previously
  • Expects 2019 growth at 2.1%
  • Sees CPI at 1.8% in 2018 and 2.0% in 2019

Meanwhile Germany's economy minister Peter Altmaier is commenting saying that the country's growth remains robust and that overheating of the economy is not discernible. He also reiterates that the upturn is continuing but points out that foreign trade is unlikely to make a significant contribution to growth this year.

I'm not too sure how long they can maintain such forecasts if manufacturing - the backbone of the German economy - continues to struggle (relative to last year) into Q2. Last year, Germany posted a 2.2% GDP growth which was the strongest year since 2011.
