BERLIN (MNI) – The German Finance Ministry on Wednesday denied
media reports that there are discussions underway in the EU about
allowing the European rescue fund EFSF to lend directly to troubled
banks.
“Such discussions do not exist,” ministry spokesman Martin Kotthaus
said at a regular government press conference here. He reminded that
under the regulations of the EFSF, the rescue fund is only allowed to
hand out loans to governments.
