BERLIN (MNI) – The German Finance Ministry said Friday that
Eurozone finance ministers will not decide about Spain’s demand for
fiscal aid for its banking sector at their regular monthly meeting on
Monday.
Finance Ministry spokesman Martin Kotthaus repeated at a regular
government press conference here that a decision could come only once
the report by the troika – the EU Commission, ECB and IMF – on the
Spanish situation had been finalized.
“Up to now we have no report,” Kotthaus said. “Thus, no decisions
can be made on Monday.”
Regarding the succession of Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude
Juncker at the head of the Eurogroup, Kotthaus said, “This remains open,
there is no solution yet.” He reaffirmed that Finance Minister Wolfgang
Schaeuble is in principle still willing to succeed Juncker.
