FRANKFURT (MNI) – Germany’s economic growth cannot be expected to
exceed 2% per year in the coming years, the country’s finance minister,
Wolfgang Schaeuble, said in an interview pre-released Wednesday.

The country’s constitutionally mandated debt limit must be honored,
the minister told Germany’s Manager Magazine.

“We must take care that the debt limit is adhered to,” Schaeuble
said, referring to the country’s constitutional amendment requiring that
Germany reduce its budget deficit to 0.35% of GDP by 2016.

This is true even in times of “modest” economic growth, he
insisted. “We cannot expect growth of more than 2% in the coming years,”
Schaeuble said.
