BERLIN (MNI) – German federal net new borrowing this year might be
heading towards E20 billion, far below the E48.4 billion earmarked in
the 2011 budget bill, a senior member of German Chancellor Angela
Merkel’s CDU/CSU-FDP coalition said Friday.
“It will be likely E22 billion but may be even approaching E20
billion,” the CDU/CSU’s parliamentary budget speaker, Norbert Barthle,
said in a speech in the lower house, the Bundestag.
Barthle predicted that federal net new borrowing next year will
also stay below the E26.1 billion earmarked in the 2012 budget bill. The
bill is to be passed later today by the Bundestag.
