FRANKFURT (MNI) – Germany’s opposition Social Democratic Party will
likely vote against the law enabling German funds to flow to Greece when
the bill is voted on Friday, German business daily Handelsblatt reported
Wednesday.
A dispute surrounding a tax on banks and their share in the rescue
plan is keeping the largest opposition party from giving the government
its support.
“Looking at it today, it is unlikely that we will vote for the
law,” SPD deputy floor leader Joachim Poss said. The party will decide
on how it will vote in a special meeting tomorrow morning, the paper
wrote.
Nevertheless, the governing coalition will likely garner enough
votes to get the bill through both the parliament and the upper house on
Friday.
