Chairman of the 1922 committee speaks

  • Thought that it was right to announce the motion before markets opened
  • Declines to put a firm number on how many votes needed to win
  • Need to see full electoral lists to determine that
  • If there were to be a leadership contest, would want to complete the parliamentary stages before Christmass recess

Pretty much confirms what was reported earlier here. Nothing new from Brady here so far. At latest count, Reuters had over 100 Tory lawmakers pledging their support for May publicly. But do be reminded that the vote later is a secret ballot so it will be anonymous; hence, public support ahead of the vote may amount to nothing at the end of the day.
