FRANKFURT (MNI) – The Eurozone may need support from other European
Union members, Irish prime minister Enda Kenny said in an interview with
German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published on Thursday.
“Despite huge sums already pumped into saving the euro,” it has not
been possible to stabilize the Eurozone, Kenny observed. This is why the
questions emerges “whether the Eurozone can manage on its own or whether
all 27 countries must get active,” he said.
“We must finally leverage the crisis fund, the EFSF,” Kenny urged.
While he agreed with German chancellor Angela Merkel that “the ECB is
the very last backstop,” Kenny said that all efforts to give the EFSF
more firepower had failed to convince investors.
