–France’s Sarkozy says ready to activate aid at any time
PARIS (MNI) – Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, speaking to
reporters here following a summit meeting with French President Nicolas
Sarkozy, said a failure by Eurozone countries to aid Greece would be bad
for the euro, French daily Le Monde reported Friday afternoon.
“We are in perfect agreement that Greece belongs to the Eurozone
and that it is therefore important for us to give all our support —
otherwise there will be very negative consequences for our currency,”
Berlusconi was quoted as saying in a joint press conference with
Sarkzozy after their meeting at the Elysee Palace.
Sarkozy echoed the sentiment, saying, “we are ready to activate at
any moment the support plan for Greece.” He added: “It will be up to
European authorities to decide when the time is right.”
