— Azumi: Japan Stocks Not Reflecting Econ Fundamentals

TOKYO (MNI) – Japanese Finance Minister Jun Azumi said on Tuesday
that it’s time for top financial policymakers from the Group of Seven
major nations to discuss their common concern — the unstable global
economy.

“It’s been about a month since our last meeting in Washington (in
April) so we need to communicate soon, although I’m not sure if there
will be a meeting,” he told a regular press briefing.

In response to questions, Azumi said he is “not sure” whether the
G7 finance ministers will hold a teleconference later on Tuesday.

He declined comment as to whether the G7 would issue a joint
statement after a meeting or conference call.

Asked about the recent global stock market sell-off triggered by
jitters over the European debt crisis and U.S. economic slowdown, he
replied, “It is regrettable that Japanese stock prices are not
reflecting economic fundamentals.”
