More of the same in speech from May

  • Government committed to ensuring no hard border in Ireland
  • Alternative arrangements must be workable in Northern Ireland
  • Parliament has called for changes to backstop
  • A changed backstop is the key issue in Brexit process
  • Trying to address lack of time limit on backstop

Maybe there's a way to make it happen but right now it looks like Theresa May is running out of time and is going to have to come back to Parliament with the same deal. They'll vote it down again and then what? An extension of Article 50? The EU might not even accept the request.

It looks more and more like an election or May quits and I'm not sure the pound loves either of those scenarios. It's down 90 pips today after busting the 200-day moving average.
