TOKYO (MNI) – Japanese retail sales in September appeared to have
dropped 0.1% on year, posting the second consecutive monthly y/y fall,
according to the median forecast by economists polled by Market News
International.
The Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry will release the data at
0850 JST on Thursday, Oct. 27 (2350 GMT Wednesday).
The pace of decline is expected to have decelerated in September
from -2.6% in August, thanks to improvement in auto sales, economists
said.
New vehicle sales in Japan posed the first year-on-year rise in 13
months in September, up 1.7%, thanks to a sharp drop in demand the year
before which was caused by the end to the government’s reward program
for buying low-emission vehicles, industry data have shown.
In August, overall retail sales posted the first fall in three
months, following rush buying of digital TVs in July, when Japan
terminated analog broadcasting services,
