NEW YORK (MNI) – Online recruitment activity picked up among the
nation’s largest employers during the September 25 week, according to
MNI’s U.S. job openings indicator released Wednesday which rose to 3.0
from zero in the prior week.

The gain, however, is not enough to keep up acceleration in the
four-week average which slowed to 0.9 from 2.2 in the prior week.

Yet the latest week’s gain, together with the still positive
four-week average, point to a slightly increasing trend for online
recruitment.

The industries showing the most positive trends are retail followed
by leisure & hospitality. Manufacturing is showing a slightly rising
trend.

The information sector is showing a declining trend is, while all
other sectors are mixed.

Job openings in the latest week total 238,100, or 1.2% of the
sample’s total U.S. employment.

MNI’s indicator tracks individual job listings on a weekly basis
from a sample of 500 of the nation’s largest employers, a group that
employs a total of 19.7 million U.S. workers.

Editor’s Note: MNI compiles its job openings indicator by tracking
career sections of company websites producing a diffusion index that
measures distribution of change.
