Yesterday US President Trump tweeted China was dialling the tariff back to zero
So far that remains conjecture, this the latest:
That is, they are thinking about it.
More (report via Securities Daily, citing unnamed sources inside industry):
- departments in China's government are still discussing on the possibility of reducing tariffs on cars imported from the US
- The size of the reduction is still up for grabs
- there has been no announcement on any timetable for reductions
Its probably not impossible that Xi gave Trump the impression that they'd do something, but their real intention was not following through (or doing so only on a smaller scale). I remain sceptical this agreement will amount to much.
