Stocks close lower but it could have been worse

Dow was down over -300 points at one point

The major US indices closed lower but it was one of those days that it could have been a lot worse:

• The S&P closed at 2818.37, down -21.59 points or -0.76%. The low reached 2802.49 (down about -38 points at the low).
• The Nasdaq close at 7774.11, down -96.77 points or-1.23%. The low reached 7732.69 (down about -138 points at the lows)
• The Dow closed down -137 points at 25162. The low reached 24965 (down about -334 points at the lows).
