A report from UBS shows that from 2000-2010 real incomes surged in Greece, Portugal and Spain while languishing in the core. The FT breaks it down:

If you look at the growth in household real disposable income between 2000 and 2010, those living in peripheral countries have benefited the most.

A lot has changed since 2010 but the pre-crisis boom in the periphery (and pain in the core) is a surprise.
