President calls for fasting and prayer
Sunday was a nationwide day of prayer in Zambia as President Edgar Lungu called for divine intervention to save the African country's currency, the kwacha, from a record drop, the local press reports.
The request gained wide support from the country's churches. All football matches were called off and bars and restaurants didn't accept customers for most of the day on Sunday.
The US dollar has gained 63% against the kwacha since July, devastating the local economy as a drought hits hydroelectricity production hard and copper exports crater.
Hope and prayer... the Zambia President sounds like a currency trader.
