The Canadian government is attempting to build (and entirely pay for) a new international bridge between Detroit and Windsor.

The current bridge is the busiest bridge in North America, jammed all the time and about 25% of all merchandise trade between Canada and the US crosses it.

The problem is, the bridge is owned by an American billionaire and he makes a fortune in tolls. He has reinvested a portion of that fortune lobbying in a ballot initiative that will essentially kill the project.

In an ode to the power of lobbying, it looks like he might convince the people of Michigan to reject a free bridge.
