Can Bitcoin have a repeat performance
Buying Bitcoin at the start of 2017 was undoubtedly one of the all-time great trades. It rose 1327%, in a performance that was only exceeded by other cryptocurrencies. It rose to $14,300 from $960.
To tack on another 1327%, how much would it need to rise? To $189,761. The market cap would be nearly $3 trillion and the chart would look something like this:
Meanwhile, Ethereum rose 9552% last year to $850 and would have to rise to $81,192 to repeat its performance.
In total, the 20 biggest cryptocurrencies have a combined market cap of $512 billion and gained 2891%. A repeat performance would put them at nearly $15 trillion. That would be double the Dow Jones Industrial Average and compare with about $24 trillion for the S&P 500.
