FRANKFURT (MNI) – European Central Bank President Jean-Claude
Trichet today praised Ireland’s progress in restoring its
creditworthiness and credibility.
“Ireland is gaining credibility readily,” said Trichet at a press
conference Thursday following the bank’s decision to leave interest
rates unchanged.
“Ireland is implementing what was decided. It is increasing its
creditworthiness, it seems to me, very visibly,” he said. Following a
positive review of the progress made towards meeting the conditions of
its EU-IMF bailout loans, EU governments last week officially approved
the disbursement of E7.5 billion for Ireland to be released in two
tranches.
