All positive in the first Trudeau-Trump joint statement
The first statement from Trump and Trudeau contained all of the usual pleasantries and nods to the huge amount of trade between the countries and longstanding relationship.
Between the lines, a few things stood out.
- Commitment to energy cooperation
- Several nods to efficiency at the border
- Preclearance for goods moving across the border
- To continue dialogue on regulations that are business friendly but don't compromise on health, safety and environment
"We affirm the importance of building on this existing strong foundation for trade and investment and further deepening our relationship, with the common goal of strengthening the middle class," the statement says.
There isn't much to take away here but one thing is the border. Trump is really toughening up on the Southern border and other entries but he also sounds open to making the Northern border more efficient.
