I think I just heard the best summation of the differences between the left-leaning side of the economic/political spectrum and the right leaning side.
Joe Kernan, on CNBC was goading former Intel CEO Craig Barrett on tax rates. Kernan was saying you “need to care” about education, government programs, etc.
Barrett’s reply: “You need to care about results.”
In my experience, the left side of the ledger cares more about the optics of how policies look and “feel” and that they be well-intended.
Those on the right care more about results, even if the programs are not popular in faculty lounges at Ivy League universities.
