The readings here are an indicator of short-term trends in the retail and wholesale sector of the UK economy. That's a notable improvement in consumption pattern as CBI notes that the rise in sales was probably supported by the later timing of Easter this year.
Nonetheless, it's a minor data point and will do little to alleviate pressure on the pound as Brexit developments continue to drag out. Cable is still seen trading near the lows at 1.2875 currently as the dollar holds firm in the European morning.
