LONDON (MNI) – There was little change in the UK borrowing
environment facing households or businesses in January, the British
Bankers’ Association reported today.
Approvals for house purchase were practically static at 28,932 from
28,907 in December, the BBA reported. In value terms, approvals for
house purchase fell to stg4.116bn from stg4.121bn in value terms.
Approvals for remortgaging rose to 26,109 from 24,946 in
December.
The change in net lending secured on dwellings rose by stg1.6bn.
BBA statistics director, David Dooks said:
“We are seeing little change in the borrowing environment for
households or businesses at the start of 2011. The high street banks
have seen more remortgaging activity of late as people look to fix. The
banks’ mortgage lending growth continues to exceed the rest of the
market”.
“In both unsecured borrowing and company finance, the emphasis is
on repayment rather than new borrowing.”
