Latest data released by Halifax - 7 August 2018

  • Prior +0.3%; revised to +0.9%
  • House prices 3m/y +3.3% vs +2.7% expected
  • Prior +1.8%

That's a much higher jump in house prices than expected and a higher revision on the monthly figure for June as well. The three months to July also shows an increase of 3.3% beating estimates. That's the highest estimate for the rolling three months since December last year.

Although the general trend is slowing house prices in London, the surge here shows that the housing market is still not yet on course for any form of landing (soft or hard) just yet.

The average price for a standard dwelling in July was £230,280 - the highest for the year so far.
