LONDON (MNI) – UK mortgage approvals nudged up a little further in
May from April, rising to a new monthly high for 2010 but still well
below late 2009 outturns.
The number of approvals for house purchases in May climbed to
36,709 from 35,964 in April. This compares with the 45,758 seen in
December 2009.
BBA statistics director, David Dooks said:
“The low interest rate environment is resulting in customers
choosing to reduce or pay off borrowing, particularly personal loans,
rather than saving.
“Lending to non-financial companies continues to be slow as demand
for loans remains subdued.”
