The British Bankers’ Association reports the number of mortgages approved for house purchase rose very slightly on the month in April, but were still down 15.5% on a year earlier.

The industry group said that mortgages for house purchase stood at a seasonally adjusted 27,685 in April compared with 26,671 in March. The average value of the loans stood at £129,100.

Net mortgage lending meanwhile stood at just £2.7 bln compared with a revised £3.4 bln in March, the lowest in eight years.
