Latest data released by Markit/CIPS - 2 October 2018

The headline reading hits a six-month low as business expectations drag the overall report here, falling to its weakest since October 2017. The positive news is that new orders were at its strongest levels since December 2016. But overall, it's not going to mask the fact that once again construction activity in the UK continues to show signs of a struggle.

Cable has been marked lower to session lows of 1.2982 as the dollar and yen continues to ramp up the pressure across the major currencies bloc. GBP/JPY has also fallen to a low of 147.61 on the day now.
